Lake Sawyer Update
Ralph Lowen recently attended a community open house in Black
Diamond hosted by the
Yarrow Bay Group. As you may have heard YBG are well-financed developers
buying big land parcels in Black Diamond. They now own about half of the
property in Black Diamond plus some parcels they want annexed to Black
Diamond. One of the pieces they recently purchased includes the Toy
Stump trail and the Bridges trail plus the area along Hwy 169 north of
the coal car gate. The good news is that it will take some time for
anything to happen with that area. The "Toy Stump/Bridges" parcel is is
the smallest piece of land they have purchased. YBG is focusing its
first efforts on a large parcel roughly SE of the Mexican restaurant.
While we may eventually lose some of the trails noted above the new
development will have large public permanent open space set aside and
preserved just like Henry's Ridge.
So there could easily be more trails in places we never imagined. One
bonus
is that the YBG project manager in Black Diamond is a mountain biker and
seems interested in trails. Peter Fisher of Black Diamond Bike even took
him out for a ride on some of the trails near the shop. This is
admittedly not much but has to be better than dealing with someone who
has no interest in the outdoors or trails.
Also the City of Black Diamond is holding a planning session concerning
the park land at the south end of Lake Sawyer. Ralph will be attending
the planning session or charette as they call it. Hopefully Ralph can
advance the interests of mountain bikers in any plans for the the park. |
